Ypsilanti To Streamline Path For Future Developments
Ypsilanti will now have help from the state in developing vacant properties. It's now the sixth city in Michigan to be designated as a Redevelopment Ready Community.
City officials celebrated the announcement this morning at the new Cultivate Coffee and Tap Room in Depot Town. Beth Ernat is Ypsilanti’s economic development director. She says becoming a Redevelopment Ready Community means developers will have a streamlined process in Ypsilanti.
“When developers are looking at locations, they’re looking to know how much politics [is involved], [what] are they going to have to deal with. This reduces the red tape.”
As a Redevelopment Ready Community, Ypsilanti will receive grants and assistance from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation to create a series of rules and regulations for development that are consistent with other RRC cities in the state.
