Public efforts to find the next leader of the Ann Arbor Area Transportation Authority kick off Tuesday.

Community members get a chance to share what they want from the AAATA's next CEO at a public meeting.

Board Chair Charles Griffith says leadership, communications, and strategic planning skills, as well as knowledge of transit systems, are some of the characteristics the board wants. He expects the passage of the transit millage will help land a quality candidate. "The prospects for increasing the size of our system and looking at even more planning for the future will provide someone with a lot of ambition to want to come here," Griffith says.

The search firm, Harris RandLusk is leading the effort.

Tuesday's meeting starts at 5:30 at the downtown Ann Arbor library.

Like many, I first came to this area when I started school at the University of Michigan, then fell in love with the community and haven’t left. After graduating from U of M in the mid 1990’s I interned at WDET for several years, while also working a variety of jobs in Ann Arbor. Then in 1999 I joined the WEMU news team.
