Ann Arbor Area Transportation Authority's Michael Ford has been chosen to lead the Regional Transit Authority.  According to tweets from Transit Riders United and others, The RTA board reportedly voted in a unanimous decision for Ford Wednesday.

He was one of 3 finalists for the job.  Former Detroit Department of Transportation director Albert Martin and the former CEO of the Capital Area Transit System in Baton Rouge, Louisiana Brian Marshall were the other candidates.

Ford has served as CEO of the AAATA for about 5 years.  The move comes just weeks after voters in Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti, and Ypsilanti Township approved a new transit millage to pay for expanded service.

Like many, I first came to this area when I started school at the University of Michigan, then fell in love with the community and haven’t left. After graduating from U of M in the mid 1990’s I interned at WDET for several years, while also working a variety of jobs in Ann Arbor. Then in 1999 I joined the WEMU news team.
