One of Ann Arbor's four art fairs is marking its 45th anniversary this year.  It's not just the weather that officials with the Ann Arbor Summer Art Fair are celebrating.

They're celebrating all of the artists that are showing wares in the 45th version of the fair.

Executive Director Max Clayton says she loves walking by the booths and seeing the mix of art including jewelry, glass, ceramic, metal, paintings, and photographs.  Clayton encourages visitors to talk with the artists especially those in photography that have gone through major changes over the last decade.  She says, "Have them explain their process and how it's changed over the years.  The technology has changed, the ingredients, the chemicals have changed.  It's been a very, very interesting, sometimes a dilemma for the artists because they've had to learn to do things very, very differently."

Clayton says the four art fairs work well together because each organization is committed to quality artists.

Like many, I first came to this area when I started school at the University of Michigan, then fell in love with the community and haven’t left. After graduating from U of M in the mid 1990’s I interned at WDET for several years, while also working a variety of jobs in Ann Arbor. Then in 1999 I joined the WEMU news team.
