The Ann Arbor City Council has decided to end part of its Healthy Streets Projectearly over safety concerns.
Temporary bike and pedestrian lanes that were installed in September to create more space for social distancing during COVID-19 will be removed from some streets outside the downtown area. They include Broadway between Detroit and Maiden Lane, and Packard between Platt and Eisenhower. Council Member Kathy Griswoldfrom the second ward explains why.
Council Member Kathy Griswold: Drivers were, they were driving in the lane that had been reserved for cyclists and for pedestrians.
Construction cones were used to create the lanes but they’re expected to be removed during the next 10 days. Other streets included in the Healthy Streets Project will continue use the lanes until about the end of November.
