Court Rules In EMU’s Favor Regarding Reinstating Women’s Softball

Eastern Michigan University

A court has ruled in Eastern Michigan University’s favor in the latest battle over reinstating a women’s sports program.

The Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals has agreed to Eastern’s request for an emergency stay in the Title IX case involving the reinstatement of the women’s softball program.

The university eliminated four sports programs last year in a budget-cutting move.

A federal judge had ordered EMU to reinstate its women’s tennis and softball programs by the fall of 2019.

The university appealed the decision saying it has a solution that better addresses the Title IX concerns than being court ordered as to what sports to offer.
