The Federal Emergency Management Agency is launching four new disaster recovery centers in Michigan to help address requests for assistance related to the severe flooding in late June. We get the details from WEMU's Taylor Pinson.

Those are intended to provide direct, in-person help to those seeking to apply for disaster relief.

FEMA spokesperson Jann Tracey says most of the flooding occurred in people's basements where many "essential" household items are normally installed.

"The furnace, the hot water heater, the electrical box, maybe the washer and dryer. So, if people sustained damage to any of those, they certainly should make application with FEMA."

But Tracey says, before they do that, people should reach out to their insurance providers first to see if anything is already covered.
