According to Dr. John Greden, founder and director of the University of Michigan Comprehensive Depression Center, the impact on people's well being due to the coronavirus pandemic is not just on those who actually get the virus.  He spoke with WEMU's Lisa Barry and says knowing someone is there for you is crucial at this time as well as honest and realistic talk about what is going on.

Dr. John Greden says there are a lot of psychological issues that need to be addressed stemming from the current health pandemic.  He says there needs to be conversations about what is going on to counteract the silence.  He says this is a particularly difficult time for those already dealing with psychological issues and adds addressing those head-on and using words like "depression" don't make it worse--they help cut down the stigma.  He suggests instead of seeing what is going on as a disaster, look at it more as an opportunity for connection and creating something better in your world.
