Arts funding is the focus of a town hallwith Washtenaw County candidates Wednesday evening.

The event is organized by Creative Many Michigan, theArts Alliance, and the Nonprofit Leadership Alliance.  Candidates will talk about how they plan to incorporate the economic impact of the arts into policy decisions.

Deb Polich is President of the Arts Alliance.

She says,

“Creative industries on a national level is 4.2 percent of the GDP. It’s big business and as we look at economic development in every community in Washtenaw County, this is an opportunity for our community for growth.”

Polich says the impact of the arts is often looked over as an opportunity for economic growth, even though the arts sector is 4.2% of the national GDP.

The forum begins Wednesday at 5:30 PM at Eastern Michigan University’s Student Center.  89.1 WEMU’sDavid Fair will moderate the event.
