Michigan officially has a new governor.  Gretchen Whitmer was sworn in Tuesday on the Capitol steps.

49th governor of Michigan Gretchen Whitmer was sworn in by Michigan Supreme Court Justice Beth Clement – a Governor Rick Snyder appointee.

Throughout her speech, Whitmer called for unity – and building bridges instead of walls.  She’s a Democrat that will have to work with a Republican-led Legislature.

“We need to come together now, not as Democrats and Republicans, but as Michiganders.  So let’s fix our roads and be the state that is not paralyzed by partisanship, but works together.”

New Attorney General Dana Nessel and Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson were also sworn in.
