Ypsilanti Suspending Use Of Parking Meters Due To Coin Shortage

Public Domain Pictures

You wont have to put change in the parking meter the next time you visit the City of Ypsilanti.

City officials announced Thursday they are temporarily suspending the use of paid parking meters for the foreseeable future.

City Project Manager Bonnie Wessler says that’s because of the ongoing national coin shortage caused by COVID-19.

“Unfortunately, all of our meters run on coins right now, but we all feel its pretty unfair to penalize people for something that’s completely out of their control,” Wessler says.

Wessler says, despite the suspension, time limits are still in effect on those parking spots, and anyone who stays in a space too long will still be ticketed.
