City Of Ypsilanti Starts Process To Fill City Council Vacancy

City of Ypsilanti

Ypsilanti’s city council is now accepting applications from residents interested in filling the Ward 1 vacancy on council.

To be eligible, citizens must have resided within the first ward for a minimum of 30 days prior to their appointment and have been a registered voter in that ward on or before July 17th of 2020.  City Clerk Andrew Hellenga says you can download an application on the city’s website, but submissions must be made in person at city hall by August 6th

City Clerk Andrew Hellenga: So, your identification can be verified.

The city’s charter requires council to fill the vacancy by August 18th.  The new member will serve until November of 2020 to replace Mayor Lois Richardson, who became mayor when former Mayor Beth Bashert resigned from office last month.
