Ypsilanti Township Army Veteran Gets A New Roof

May 20, 2019

An Ypsilanti Township military veteran received a new roof Monday, thanks to the national Owens Corning Roof Deployment Project.  89.1 WEMU's Jorge Avellan was there and has the story.

Construction workers from the Neighborhood Roofing Company in Ann Arbor installed a brand new roof for 82 year-old Jerry Anderson.  The company donated its services to help the Army veteran.

"It's going to be a big help, I'll tell you.  I was afraid that the roof was going to fall on me," said Anderson.

Habitat for Humanity of Huron Valley connected Anderson with the roof deployment project.  Martha Davis is the director of social enterprises and says they have a program specifically for veterans.

"They've served our country and help keep everyone safe.  They've given years of their lives protecting us," said Davis.

Anderson has lived at his home on Julie Drive for 22 years and says this is the first time his roof has been replaced.
