#OTGYpsi: 'A Great Day in Ypsi' brings together aspiring writers and creatives
This past weekend, YpsiWrites hosted "A Great Day in Ypsi." The event, which celebrates Ypsilanti writers and storytellers, was inspired by Art Kane's "A Great Day in Harlem" photograph and by the book "Sweet Music of Harlem" by local author Debbie Taylor. Taylor joined Rylee Barnsdale to discuss the event and how it can inspire more Ypsilanti stories and storytellers.

Issues of the Environment: Argus Farm Stop in Ann Arbor among those dealing with uncertainty
During the Biden administration, local food distributors were encouraged to apply for grants funding to help build infrastructure for local farms and food. Now, the USDA is making cuts that could undermine the local food system and its suppliers...like Argus Farm Stop in Ann Arbor. Cinema Chat: '1969: Killers, Freaks and Radicals' to feature at upcoming Cinetopia Film Festival in Ann Arbor
The Cinetopia Film Festival hits Ann Arbor later this month, and the director of one of the movies stopped by the WEMU studio. Andrew Templeton is the director of "1969: Killers, Freaks and Radicals." That movie has a focus on the Michigan murders of John Norman Collins right here in Washtenaw County, He spoke about the film with WEMU's David Fair. Plus, David talked about the latest films and special screenings with Marquee Arts cinema programming director, Nick Alderink.

Washtenaw United: A Women's History Month conversation with Washtenaw County Sheriff Alyshia Dyer
In November of last year, Alyshia Dyer became the first woman to win election to the office of Washtenaw County Sheriff. She took over in January of this year and is now a few months into the first year of her first term. WEMU's David Fair talked with Sheriff Dyer about her career in law enforcement, the women that helped shape her life and career and her ambitions for breaking more glass ceilings and opening more doors for the young women to follow.

#OTGYpsi: Growing Hope's 'Incubator Kitchen' assists Ypsilanti's up-and-coming food entrepreneurs
Incubator kitchens are commercial kitchen spaces for food-based entrepreneurs to rent and share, and they're an integral resource to those with big food ideas but lack of access to specific equipment. They also provide information and assistance both on business matters, like marketing and advertising, and food matters, like food safety and product testing. Ypsilanti nonprofit Growing Hope offers its own incubator kitchen program to any Ypsilanti resident with food business dreams. Concentrate Media's Rylee Barnsdale talks about the program with its manager, Deante Brand.

1st Friday Focus on the Environment: NOAA's Great Lakes Environmental Research Lab in Ann Arbor feeling the weight of federal cuts
Among the agencies being hit by federal funding cuts, changes in administration priorities and employee buyouts is the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. NOAA's Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory is in Ann Arbor, and some changes have already taken place. Deborah Lee who, up until her recent retirement, served as director of the lab. She discussed the changes with WEMU's David Fair and Michigan League of Conservation Voters executive director, Lisa Wozniak.

Issues of the Environment: State Senator Jeff Irwin of Ann Arbor proposes higher fees for dumping trash in Michigan
Michigan attracts trash. Accumulated garbage from places like Ohio, Indiana and Canada ends up in Michigan landfills. In fact, out-of-state garbage accounts for about 25% of what is being dumped in Michigan landfills. State Senator Jeff Irwin is looking to make Michigan a less attractive dumping site by raising the cost of sending garbage here. WEMU's David Fair talked with the Ann Arbor Democrat about his bills to increase tipping fees.

Washtenaw United: WCC President Rose Bellanca named 2025's Power of the Purse Woman of the Year
Washtenaw Community College President Rose Bellanca has been named as the United Way of Southeastern Michigan's "Power of the Purse Woman of the Year." She will be formally feted at a ceremony in April. As we mark Women's History Month, WEMU's David Fair talked with Dr. Bellanca about the challenges for women in higher education and how her story can pave the way for the workforce of the future.
