#OTGYpsi: 'Depot Town Cats & Dogs' provides supplies and community connections for Ypsilanti's pet parents
Owning a pet is a huge responsibility, and it takes a lot of care. When in need of appropriate supplies, Ypsilanti residents can find three pet stores that can provide what you need for your furry friends. And there's the opportunity to make some human friends along the way. Concentrate Media's Rylee Barnsdale caught up with the owner of the recently opened "Depot Town Cats & Dogs", Holli Andrews, for this week's "On the Ground Ypsi."

Washtenaw United: Stable housing becoming more difficult for area seniors
The lack of affordable housing is having a significant impact on our aging population. U of M Health’s Housing Bureau for Seniors reports 66% of its eviction and foreclosure notices to clients and patients are women, and 96% of them have incomes of less than $50,000 a year. Yvonne Cudney is the community outreach and education coordinator at the bureau. She joined WEMU's David Fair to discuss the efforts to help Washtenaw County seniors in their homes and apartments.

Issues of the Environment: Ann Arbor Climate Corps helping push the city toward carbon neutrality
You may not have noticed, but the Ann Arbor Climate Corps has been quietly working this year to combat the affects of climate change and help the city achieve its goal of carbon neutrality by 2030. The program is designed to increase the Ann Arbor Office of Sustainability’s outreach capacity and help residents take action toward that end. WEMU's David Fair talked it over with Ann Arbor Climate Corps program manager, Maggie Halpern.

#OTGYpsi: YDL showcasing Washtenaw County connections to the Underground Railroad
The Ypsilanti District Library’s Whittaker Branch is about to launch an exhibition capturing what enslaved people might have witnessed on their journey along the Underground Railroad. It will also offer programs highlighting Washtenaw County's connections to the Underground Railroad throughout September and October. YDL assistant director Julianne Smith joined Rylee Barnsdale for a conversation about those very things.

Washtenaw United: A2Zero has more than environmental and sustainability goals
The A2Zero Plan aims to have Ann Arbor carbon neutral by the year 2030. While it is an environmental initiative, it is being implemented with the idea of creating greater equity and equality through the process. WEMU's David Fair talked over that component of A2Zero with Missy Stults, the city's Director of Sustainability and Innovations.

creative:impact - Ron Brooks is the Mayor of Ann Arbor Jazz
Ron Brooks is a jazz musician, a band leader and a mentor. He founded the legendary Bird of Paradise Jazz club, that, for more than 20 years, brought the greatest jazz musicians to Ann Arbor. Ron will receive Creative Washtenaw’s 2024 Lifetime Achievement medal at THE pARTy! on September 30. He joins Deb Polich to talk about his career and legacy on this edition of "creative:impact."

1st Friday Focus on the Environment: US Supreme Court overturns Chevron Doctrine causing concern for safe drinking water
The Biden Administration has taken steps to address the environmental problems posed by PFAS contamination. The U.S. Supreme Court recently made a ruling overturning the "Chevron Doctrine," and it has environmentalists alarmed. The implications on PFAS regulation and clean-up are already being felt and could have implications right here in Michigan. That's the topic WEMU's David Fair and Michigan League of Conservation Voters executive director Lisa Wozniak chose for the September edition of "1st Friday Focus on the Environment." Their guest is among those concerned about the ramifications. John Reeder is Vice President of Federal Affairs with the Environmental Working Group.

creative:impact - Bev Willis’ archive of civil rights legacy
Bev Willis, Washtenaw County Historical Society administrator, has a passion for history. She grew up in Washington, D.C. in a family deeply ensconced in the Civil Rights Movement. Her family’s role and record of the movement is our nation’s history. In this summer marking the 60th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act becoming law, Bev tells her story when she joins Deb Polich on this edition of WEMU’s "creative:impact."
