A growing number of adults are competing in a wide variety of sports and Washtenaw County is no exception. Nearly 200 people in the area are in the middle of competing in the Crossfit Open.
It’s a five week long competition with a different workout each week. Workouts include weightlifting such as deadlifts, overhead squats, and snatches, combined with jumping rope, chest to bar pull-ups, and jumping on boxes.
Lindsey Stewart is competing in her second Crossfit Open at Ann Arbor’s Joust Strength and Fitness. Stewart believes the competition pushes people even though nearly all know they won’t advance to the regional competition.
Doug Chapman owns and runs Ann Arbor’s Hyperfit U-S-A one of the earliest Crossfit gyms in the world. Chapman says Crossfit can be scaled in a way everyone can participate.
