The Ann Arbor School Board will have a new look after next month's election. Ten Candidates are running for four seats on the board. While I will be interviewing all of the candidates, incumbent trustee Susan Baskett is the focus of today's report.
Baskett wants to continue fighting for fiscal stability and program enhancements in Ann Arbor Public Schools. She expects the question of continued privatization of support staff, compensation for teachers that have remained loyal to the district, and student achievement to be other top issues facing the board in coming years.
Baskett believes her 11 years serving on the board is needed at this time. "All the decisions that have to be made coming up, would really be helpful if there was someone with my experience, my familiarity, and my overall spunk if you will," Baskett says.
Baskett has been adamant in her opposition to the proposed annexation of Whitmore Lake Public Schools. She doesn't think the plan is mutually beneficial and questions how the issue of diversity will be addressed with Whitmore Lake's district over 90-percent white.
