Online Petition Seeks To End The Annual 'Color Run' In Ypsilanti

A petition to move the annual Ypsilanti Color Run out of some neighborhoods has started a strong debate online.

When it comes to the yearly Color Run, Ypsilanti residents seem to either love it or hate it. The petition to move the event away from the city’s downtown and major streets is getting the attention of residents on social media.

K, who wished not to be identified, lives in Rivertown.  She says the Color Run is unpleasant for those living near the race route.

“Yes, it’s a one day stressor, but it’s such a huge stressor every single year.  You kind of forget about it until it’s coming back up.  You’re not going to be able to breathe, there’s going to be trash everywhere.  I’ve got several friends worried about the trash, they’ve got businesses down there, and the trash overflows, blows everywhere, blows down into the river," K says.

The petition has more than one hundred supporters. Find it here.

A counter petitionwas created last week by a user named Kim Anderson, although none of the six supporters listed as of Thursday, March 17 are from Ypsilanti or Michigan.

This year’s Ypsilanti Color Run is scheduled for June 25.
