Ann Arbor Film Festival Helps Local Economy

The Ann Arbor Film Festivalis the longest running independent and experimental film festival in North America.  In its 54th year, it continues to impact the local economy.

Film aficionados come from around the world for the festival that starts today.  Submissions are received from 70 different countries.  LauraBerarducci, Director of Marketing for the Washtenaw County Convention and Visitors Bureau, says its popularity attracts people to Ann Arbor which makes them want to come back to the area for other events. 

In Washtenaw County, 7,782 full-time jobs are completely supported by the tourism industry, and $824 million come from visitor spending. 

Over 180 films are shown during the six-day event.
