April is National Donate Life Month. You can register to help those in need.
In Michigan, over 3,500 people are in need of a liver, kidney, or heart right now, just to name a few organs.
Jane Nickert, director of nursing for Washtenaw County and who donated a kidney to her husband, says you help more than the patient when you donate. Many family members of those patients find peace and relief after they stop taking care of a sick loved one.
Each organ donor could help save the lives of up to eight people. 54% of adults in Michigan are registered donors.
