There's A New Mural In Downtown Ypsilanti
City officials unveiled the mural Wednesday morning. Dickerson, an Eastern Michigan University alumnus, says he wanted to honor the history and diversity of Ypsilanti with his work. “I wanted to create a setting that was whimsical, that was representative of the historical and modern context of Ypsi," he says.
From the city's press release.
The mural features Ypsilanti landscapes, icons, and architecture in a dreamy, surreal layout. Whether one is driving down Huron Street, or walking into Downtown, this largescaled mural is filled with tiny reminders of the uniqueness of Ypsilanti. One may spot the figurine from the Ypsilanti Underwear Factory, a bee to represent Ypsilanti as an official Bee City USA, or a rubber duck to represent the annual Kiwanis Duck Race at Heritage Festival.
