The legal period for lighting off fireworks in several local communities is over.
As of midnight last night, it was no longer legal to light off fireworks in Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti Township. Local ordinances only allowed citizen fireworks the day before, the day of, and the day after a holiday, such as the recent Fourth of July.
Ann Arbor Police Sergeant Thomas Hickey says anyone caught doing so at this point faces a penalty.
"It would be basically a civil infraction--a ticket."
Sergeant Hickey says there's always next time to light off fireworks, so residents (and their pets) should expect their neighborhoods to be much quieter now that the legal fireworks period is over.
