Community Dinner Held In Ypsilanti To Make Sure Everyone Who Needed It Had A Holiday Meal

Organizations such as the Downtown Association of Ypsilanti and the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office worked together to host a free community holiday dinner today.  The idea was to make sure everyone who needed it had a holiday meal this year.

Members of the public received a warm welcome at the Ypsi Alehouse where the event was held.  They enjoyed a sit-down meal that included turkey, ham. Jambalaya, and mashed potatoes to name a few.

They listened to live music as they ate with friends and family.  Vanessa B. was among over 400 people who enjoyed the food prepared by local restaurants and volunteers.

"I really believe that this was one of the best Christmas dinners that I've had."

Kathy Wyatt from the Sheriff's Office helped organize the dinner.

"It's a chance to have a special event and be treated like they are special, because everybody in our community should have a happy holiday."

Kim Love and her family smiled as they tasted the turkey.

"The setting is beautiful, the help is beautiful, they are polite, they are not rude, you don't wait long."

David Roberts owns the Ypsi Alehouse and allowed his establishment to be used for the event.

"The community supports us through people coming in and buying food and drinks from us. So we are giving back to the community."

This is the 12th year the dinner has been hosted for the community.
