Today is International Women's Day, a day for worldwide reflections on the current state of women's rights and gender equality.
A number of different events are planned all day today in Ann Arbor. Beginning at 10 this morning, several activities will get under way in a "solidarity space" in North Quad on the University of Michigan campus. Then, at 5 PM, participants will meet at Liberty Plaza in Ann Arbor for a mass gathering and march.
The local actions will coincide with women marching all over the United States, and some going on strike in observation of the "Day Without a Woman Movement" to draw attention to what they deem hurtful practices by the new presidential administration.
Supporters will gather at the Eastern Michigan University Student Union at noon today for a rally followed by a march to Welch Hall scheduled to end at 2. That demonstration is intended to call for an "anti-racist, anti-imperialist, inclusive feminism, and justice for all. "
