The Ann Arbor Human Rights Commissionwill meet tonight and possible creation of a community police review board will be up for discussion.
The commission is considering forming such a board to creat more transparency at the police department. Activists from the group Transforming Justice Washtenaw will attend the meeting to support the project.
Spokesperson Maria Ibarra says Ann Arbor is not immune to racism.
"The police can't police itself. It just doesn't make sense. Myself, as a social worker, use this example. There are people that are making sure that I'm doing my job correctly, and it's not just myself. There are other people that I'm accountable to. And we see this with everyone else with health practitioners, lawyers..."
If the board is created, it would review complaints made against the police department.
