Arts Alliance
The Arts Alliance

In this week's "creative:impact," WEMU's David Fair talks to Arts Alliance CEO Deb Polich about developments in the arts community, so far, in the first quarter of 2018.  Additionally, they discuss what else is coming up in the arts world later this year.

Deb Polich, president and CEO of The Arts Alliance and co-host of 89.1 WEMU's creative:impact

Creative industries in Washtenaw County add hundreds of millions of dollars to the local economy.  In the weeks and months to come, 89.1. WEMU's David Fair and co-host Deb Polich, the President and CEO of The Arts Alliance, explore the myriad of contributors that make up the creative sector in Washtenaw County.

What’s coming up in the arts and creative industries world on the advocacy front?

·Arts & Humanities Funding at the Federal Level

Arts Advocacy Day in Washington – March 12 & 13 (FYI – there is a group of 17 EMU arts managements students flying to DC.)

President Trump’s Budget - the termination of our nation's cultural grant-making agencies, including the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting

The proposed budget ignores the fact that Congress soundly rejected this same attempt last year to terminate the nation's cultural agencies.

To recap, Congress is still working to finish FY 2018 funding, even while FY 2019 is underway.
