A 9 year-old boy from Ypsilanti will be honored this Saturday at a Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation summit.
James Taylor says he wants to be a football player when he grows up, but for now, he's on a mission to educate the public about diabetes and funding needed for research. He was diagnosed with diabetes almost three years ago, and since then, he's been a youth ambassador for the foundation.
"It's fine to be scared when you first get diabetes, but when you start to learn about it, it's still a pain. But it's a little bit easier because you have all these people supporting you," said Taylor.
For his dedication, Taylor has been named the honorary youth chair of the 11th Annual TypeOneNation Summit. It will be held at the Wayne County Community College campus in Belleville. The event is free to attend, and it's open to the public.
