September 11 Ceremony Held At Eastern Michigan University

To remember those who died as a result of the September 11 attacks, a ceremony has held Tuesday morning at Eastern Michigan University's Pease Park.

Over 200 people gathered at a permanent September 11 memorialthat features a steel support beam from the World Trade Center.  Ben Shapiro says he was eight years old when the attacks took place 17 years ago.

"I don't remember a lot about it, but I remember being called into the computer lab in elementary school and just being told that something terrible had happened," said Shapiro.

The support beam weighs nearly 7,000 pounds and helped support the 74th floor of the South Tower.Non-commercial, fact based reporting is made possible by your financial support.  Make your donation to WEMU todayto keep your community NPR station thriving.
