This week, "Art and Soul" focuses on the many local performance arts activities taking place.  WEMU’s Lisa Barry and Wendy Wright talk to local playwright Joseph Zettelmaier about his latest production of locally gathered ghost stories.

In 2016, playwright Joseph Zettelmaier began a journey across his home state.  He set about to collect a wide variety of ghost stories, true otherworldly encounters by Michiganders from Milan to Marquette.  From these stories came a devised theatrical piece, weaving tales of the supernatural with one person’s journey to answer the question that has haunted so many of us throughout our lives…Do you believe in ghosts?

Written by Joseph Zettelmaier.  Directed by Anna Simmons.

Starring Julia Garlotte, Dan Johnson, Alysia Kolascz, and Allison Megroet.Set and Props Design by Jennifer Maiseloff.  Lighting Design by Dustin D. Miller.  Sound and Projections by Will Myers.  Costume Design by Josie Eli Lapczynski.

When Sammy plays percussion he tells a story, creating a playful conversation with other musicians and taking the listener on a musical journey.  As one of the world's greatest congueros he is currently considered to be the most likely candidate to inherit the mantles of Mongo Santamaria and Ray Barretto.

Wendy Wright has been on the radio at WEMU since April 2000. She served as host of 89.1 Jazz, Sunday mornings from 5-8 a.m. for seven years, when she was asked to host From Memphis to Motown. She was then asked to create the Soul Break which airs Wednesday afternoons.
