When looking at the world, new ideas always come along, especially for young people. A special event called "EMUiNVENT" will give K-12 students the opportunity to present their creative ideas to experts and turn them into functioning products. EMU marketing professor Shiri Vivek gives more details on the event for this week's "Focus on EMU" hosted by WEMU's Patrick Campion.

Eastern Michigan University is partnering with the Henry Ford’s Invention Convention Worldwide to provide students in grades K-12 with an interactive and interdisciplinary opportunity to use the invention process to create and pitch an original product at a regional convention. EMUiNVENT is the regional convention leading up to the Invention Convention Michigan and the National Invention Convention. The competition will be held on March 6, 2020 (9 am-2 pm), at McKenny Hall, Eastern Michigan University, Ypsilanti, MI.
By helping the students convert an idea into a product we hope to provide a platform to build students’ critical thinking and entrepreneurial skills. Students' inventions can win big awards at EMUiNVENT on March 6, 2020. The winners in the regionals will participate in the 2020 Invention Convention Michigan on April 25, 2020, organized by The Henry Ford Museum.
EMU will hold training sessions:
- For teachers who want to lead teams from their class/school.
- For students with ideas in different stages. EMU will connect the students with mentors and trainers to guide them every step in the process.
ABOUT SHIRI VIVEK
Shiri Vivek has taught in various universities internationally for over two decades. She is published in highly respected peer-reviewed journals, such as the Journal of Operations Management. Shiri has been using her inter-disciplinary education research to help various businesses improve their operational capabilities, identify system inefficiencies and bottlenecks, map business processes, market logistics offerings and engage partners in the supply chain. She is a member of the Institute of Supply Management and Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals.
