As tax season gets closer, managing your finances can be challenging.  Because of this, the United Way of Washtenaw County (UWWC) has partnered with local investment firm Revalue for an event called "Show Me the Money Day," which will offer free financial advice to any interested resident.  UWWC financial stability specialist Tien Holmes and Revalue CEO Angela Barbash join WEMU's David Fair for a conversation about personal finances, financial literacy, and the resources to plan for the future on this week's "Washtenaw United."

WEMU has partnered with the United Way of Washtenaw Countyto explore the people, organizations, and institutions creating opportunity and equity in our area.  And, as part of this ongoing series, you’ll also hear from the people benefiting and growing from the investments being made in the areas of our community where there are gaps in available services.  It is a community voice.  It is 'Washtenaw United.'

UWWC STATEMENT:

This is United Way’s 6th Annual Show Me the Money Day.  These events are hosted throughout the state of Michigan to bring free and low-cost financial products to folks that can benefit from them.  UWWC’s Financial Stability work centers around helping people move towards greater financial self-sufficiency and away from the safety-net services that are used during crisis situations.  Our ALICE Report illustrates, 39% of Washtenaw County residents struggle to afford basic needs.  As the Washtenaw County region continues to make strides toward helping its residents find paths to prosperity, this event is one way that UWWC connects folks with services that can help move them to financial stability.

For Show Me the Money Day, we’re proud to partner with so many agencies that share in this goal for our community.  Bringing workshops, resources, and our free tax preparation services together embodies our mission to connect people, resources, and organizations together to create a thriving community for everyone.
