The City of Ypsilanti has partnered with Eastern Michigan University to make face masks.

EMUwill produce 2,500 fabric masks at a cost of $2 each.  Mayor Beth Bashertsays they will then distribute the masks for free to anyone who needs them but especially to low-income residents and other populations that are vulnerable to COVID-19.

"They are using a wide variety of materials to protect themselves ranging from nothing, to a loosely placed bandana over their mouth. I had one woman tell me she was using her bra cup as a face mask."

The city is also working on putting together COVID-19 assistance care packages for residents that include hand sanitizer and toilet paper.
