The Shelter Association of Washtenaw Countyis taking steps to prepare for a possible second wave of COVID-19 cases this fall.
The shelter says they’re considering hiring additional temporary employees in case they get an influx of guests requesting overnight shelter during a second coronavirus wave. In addition to its Delonis shelter in Ann Arbor, the association is also temporarily housing the homeless at a local hotel. Dan Kelly is the executive director of the association.
Dan Kelly: We’re working with community partners from the Washtenaw Housing Alliance to Washtenaw County, to another number of organizations to see whether or not there are other hotels that could be made available.
Since the pandemic started, the shelter has reported two positive COVID-19 cases. Both of those cases were reported in March.
