To help meet an increase in demand for daycare during COVID-19, the Ann Arbor YMCA will open an all-day, school age child care in Ypsilanti Township.
The new Learning Lab program is designed to offer daycare services and light academic support to students in Kindergarten through third grade who will be learning virtually this fall. Toni Kayumiis the president of the Ann Arbor YMCA and says children of essential workers qualify for the program that offers financial assistance.
Toni Kayumi: Most families are not thinking about putting aside money for school aged child care because they’re assuming, they’re school aged child would be in school. So, that’s normally not part of a person’s budget.
The Learning Lab will be offered at the Ypsilanti Township Community Center and will launch on September 21st. Earlier this summer, the YMCA announced another Learning Lab will operate at their West Washington Street location in Ann Arbor, starting September 14th.
