Ann Arbor YMCA Will Offer Summer Camps

YMCA

The Ann Arbor YMCAwill offer summer camps in Washtenaw County this year once the “Stay Home, Stay Safe” executive order is lifted.

Ninety-two spots will be available for children of essential personnel like medical and public safety workers.  The Y had to cut its summer camp availability by more than half in order to meet safety guidelines, such as social distancing.  Toni Kayumiis the president of the Ann Arbor YMCA and says, as a non-profit organization, to them, it’s not about making money with the summer camps.

Toni Kayumi: It is about providing an essential service to families in their time of need and crisis. And knowing that it is important for them to be able to go back to work to keep their families financially whole.

The Y will offer a “Camp in a Box” option for the general public that will provide parents with a hands-on toolkit to entertain their children at home.  Those tools can also be used for activities the Y plans to host in the community throughout the summer.  Parents can pick-up the boxes at the Y.
