Washtenaw County Health Department's Budget Increases Due To COVID-19

Washtenaw County

The Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners has approved a $16.6 million budget for the Washtenaw County Health Department’s 2020/2021 fiscal year.

The Washtenaw County Health Department’s budget increased by about $800,000 because of COVID-19 response.  County Board Chair Jason Morgan says the additional funding will be used to staff projects such as contact tracing and to pay employee overtime.  He says the board expects to make amendments to the budget in the future.

Board Chair Jason Morgan: I think we’ll have much more discussion about this budget over the next two months as we look at the overall county budget and try and identify where we can pull more resources from other areas to invest in public health as a top priority for the county.

Morgan says funds from the county’s general fund, as well as the health department’s reserve fund, will be used to accommodate the increase in COVID-19 funding.
