State Senator Jeff Irwin Reacts To News Of Militia Group Plot To Try To Kidnap Governor Whitmer

Michigan State Senate
State Senator Jeff Irwin (D-Ann Arbor)

Eighteenth District State SenatorJeff Irwin of Ann Arbor was at the State Capitol Building in Lansing when he heard the news about Governor Gretchen Whitmer.  The FBI uncovered a plot by a militia group to kidnap and hold the governor hostage for treason.

State Senator Jeff Irwin says he does not fear for his safety but believes security protocols at the State Capitol Building need to be reviewed to ensure the safety of the people who work there.  He believes, now more than ever, the governor’s safety should be a priority.

Senator Jeff Irwin: She has become such a focal point of the anger and vitriol.

Irwin says that, over the summer, some protestors tried to intimidate state representatives when they took part in rallies outside the State Capitol Building holding firearms.  But despite what’s happening, he hopes it doesn’t discourage citizens from visiting their local representatives in Lansing.
