What's Next For Ann Arbor As Tom Crawford Officially Takes Over As Next City Administrator

With contract details finalized by Ann Arbor city council members and approved, Tom Crawford is now officially the city administrator for Ann Arbor...a position he has held on an interim basis for the past several months.

WEMU's Lisa Barry talks to the city administrator about his perspective and plans moving forward in the position.

New (and not-so-new as he has held the position on an interim or temporary position in the past) Ann Arbor city administrator Tom Crawford says "creating a safe community for residents and employees” is a top priority in his official position.

He says he also plans to focus on “knowing where they are going and how they are going to get there,” moving forward as well.

He says the pandemic has cost the city $4-6 million in lost revenue so far, but he doesn’t anticipate any layoffs of public service cutbacks in the near future.  Crawford says they will continue to monitor the impact of the pandemic on the city through the winter months, admitting it has made long-term planning more difficult because of the unknown impact it may have on the community.  But Crawford says he believes we are getting to the point that we will know more about the global health crisis and the impact of the virus than we don't know.
