During Tuesday night's December 1st Ypsilanti city council meeting, council will discuss a proposed development project for the vacant, city-owned property known as Water Street.
A team of developers from Kaufman Jacobs and the Kalabat Group are interested in developing the 38-acre property into a mixed-use project that includes housing, commercial, and office space. City Council Member Steve Wilcoxen from the second ward says, if the project does move forward, the developers would have to agree to clean up the property that’s contaminated with chemicals known as polychlorinated biphenyls, or PCB’s.
Council Member Steve Wilcoxen: To have it be a residential area, it requires a fairly high level of remediation, and so, that needs to be looked at. Those studies need to be done.
