Shelter Association Of Washtenaw County Opens Fourth Overnight Shelter

Shelter Association of Washtenaw County

The Shelter Association of Washtenaw County has added a fourth overnight shelter to its list of winter locations to keep up with the demand during the pandemic.

The Washtenaw County Learning Resource Center, located at 4135 Washtenaw Avenue in Ann Arbor, is now offering shelter to 40 individuals.  Dan Kelly is the executive director of the shelter association and says across all four sites, they’re currently serving over 130 people a night, a 10% increase since the pandemic started.

Dan Kelly: What it is, is allowing us to make sure that we’ve got adequate social distancing and sheltering space for anyone in the community that needs it. Because of the COVID pandemic we have to have additional spacing for everyone.

The shelter association offers weekly COVID-19 testing to its guests.  Since the pandemic started, about nine people have tested positive for COVID-19 at the shelters.  For information on the shelters that are open 7 days a week, click here.
