EMU Regent Rich Baird Resigns

EMU

Eastern Michigan University Regent Rich Baird has resigned.

Baird is one of several people facing criminal charges in a new investigation of the Flint water crisis.

In a letter issued to EMU’s Board of Regent’s Chair Eunice Jeffries, Baird states he does not want the investigation to distract from the work EMU is doing, and that his resignation is “in the best interests of the university.”

Baird was appointed to EMU’s Board of Regents in November 2018 with a term scheduled to last until December 2026.

As a result of the vacancy, Governor Gretchen Whitmer will appoint a successor.
