Eastern Michigan University is about to get a boost in federal funding.
The university has been awarded a little over 40 million dollars in additional stimulus funds, as part of the American Rescue Plan.
Walter Kraft, EMU’s Vice President of Communications, says they are still waiting to find out when they will receive the funds and are already developing a plan on how it will be used.
“20 million is directed directly to students and will go to student accounts, and that’ll be paid out over the next year or so,” Kraft says.
Kraft says the other half will be used by the university to help cover the cost of pandemic-related safety measures, such as COVID-19 testing.
