The Ann Arbor Black Film Festival is an event dedicated to showcasing the creativity and diversity of black cinema. Founded in 2024, the festival aims to celebrate the rich heritage of black storytelling and provide a platform for emerging and established filmmakers to share their voices and perspectives. Exhibiting in association with the historic Ann Arbor African American Festival, our festival seeks to inspire dialogue, promote inclusivity, and empower black creatives in the film industry. Ypsilanti First United Methodist Church welcomes the UniSong Chorale to its historic sanctuary. Featuring singers from various parts of Michigan, the ensemble is directed by Dr. Matthew Packer , music faculty at Mott Community College in Flint and music director for the Flint Male Chorus. The Ypsilanti performance is a prelude to their June 29 performance at New York City’s Carnegie Hall as part of the MidAmerica Productions 2025 season, where they will perform Jake Runestad’s “Into the Light” and Morten Lauridsen’s “Lux Aeterna.” There is no admission charge for the June 8 concert; there will be a free will offering.

Jeff Dunn is a Detroit-based jazz photographer with a deep passion for capturing the energy, soul, and spontaneity of live jazz. A lifelong jazz enthusiast and active supporter of the Detroit jazz scene, Jeff has blended his love for music, photography, and technology to document the vibrancy of the genre and its artists.
Since 2018, Jeff has served as the year-round photographer for the Detroit Jazz Festival Foundation, covering everything from intimate jam sessions and concerts to large-scale performances and educational outreach. During the COVID-impacted festivals of 2020 and 2021, his photography helped document the event as it adapted to unprecedented challenges.
Opening reception June 6, 6 pm to 8 pm. Light refreshments will be available.

The Michigan Jazz Festival is celebrating Father’s Day with its annual Father’s Day Brunch on June 15, 2025 at Schoolcraft College Vistatech Center. The Brunch is prepared by the award winning Culinary Arts program at Schoolcraft College and is served from Noon to 1 pm. The Jeff Trudell Big Band will perform from 1 pm to 2:30 pm. Jeff’s father, Johnny Trudell, was the leader of this renowned band and one of the founders of the Michigan Jazz Festival 30 years ago. Tickets are $60 (+ $2 fee) and must be purchased in advance.
