The Older Women Get, The Less Stress They Experience, According To New Study By U Of M Researcher
Getting older can be difficult for some women.
But 89.1 WEMU'S Lisa Barry reports on a new study out of the University of Michigan that found for the majority of women, the older they got, the less stress they experienced!
A study of several thousand women across the nation found a linear trend beginning around the age of 40 that the older they got, the less stress they felt. U of M Public Health researcher Elizabeth Hedgeman says one reason for the findings is that with age comes emotional maturity.
"And therefore, we are perhaps less volatile. Processing of emotions happens easier and faster and things just don’t stress us. We just don’t let things bother us as much," says Hedgeman.
The stress level declined with age for nearly all socio-demographic categories that were part of the study--with menopause, according to this research, having no impact on stress levels for the women who participated in the study that is still ongoing.
