A2Y Chamber Says Businesses Can Refuse Service To Customers Who Don't Comply With COVID-19 Orders

A2Y Regional Chamber

The Ann Arbor Ypsilanti Regional Chamber says local businesses have the right to refuse service to customers who don’t comply with local COVID-19 health orders.

The Washtenaw County Health Department recently issuedan emergency order that requires residents, businesses, and organizations to continue following public health guidelines that include using a face covering in all public settings, and to maintain social distance.  Andy LaBarre is the executive vice-president of the chamber and says the local order will replace a state order that will expire soon that requires similar safety measures.

Andy LaBarre: The intent of these guidelines is to prevent certain behaviors that could pose greater public health challenges. And just as businesses have an obligation to adhere to those orders, they are protected by them.

While Washtenaw County will continue using COVID-19 safety guidelines, nearby Livingston County is considering eliminating a mask mandate order for people who visit county buildings.
