Cancelling Football Season Could Have Major Economic Impact On Local Businesses

Pxfuel

The decision to cancel or delay football and other sports this fall is expected to have a major impact on the local economy.

The president of the Ann Arbor / Ypsilanti Regional Chamber of Commerce, Diane Keller, estimates businesses could end up losing out on millions of dollars.

She says canceling the season will hurt the whole community, but some industries will be hit especially hard by the decision.

"When you consider how it will affect the hospitality industry, between hotels and restaurants, catering, retail, local bars, it will be ginormous," Keller says.

Keller says a fair amount of that could be avoided, if Big Ten Football is able to play next spring instead.
