Alcohol Use Is On The Rise Due To Pandemic

Apr 9, 2020

The University of Michigan’s Addiction Center says alcohol use could become an issue for some during the coronavirus pandemic.

A Nielsen report revealed that alcohol sales in the U.S. increased by 55% in the third week of March.  Dr. Fred Blow is the director of the U-M Addiction Center and explains which residents are most at risk.

"Those who are in recovery may turn to alcohol because that’s a way they’ve coped with stressors in the past"

Dr. Blow says those who’ve suffered from suicide thoughts or depression in the past are also at a higher risk.  The addiction center continues to offer resources to anyone who needs them.
