City Of Ann Arbor May Declare Another Local State Of Emergency Because Of COVID-19

City of Ann Arbor

Ann Arbor’s city council will decide Monday night if they want to reinstate a local state of emergency in response to COVID-19 after lifting the original order in mid-June.

By reinstating the local state of emergency, Mayor Christopher Taylor says it allows city council to propose and implement new safety measures.  After voting on the state of emergency resolution, council will then vote on a temporary emergency ordinance regarding face coverings as a result of COVID-19.

Mayor Christopher Taylor: We'll address face coverings, of course inside and importantly I believe, outside when people are going to be within six feet of another person. There’s an ordinance proposed that would make it obligatory to wear a face covering.

During Monday's meeting, council is also expected to discuss the next steps it will take in hiring a new city administrator.  Council interviewed four finalists last week.
