City Of Ypsilanti To Discuss Affordable Housing Tonight

City of Ypsilanti

Ypsilanti’s city council will hold a work session Tuesday night, December 8th, to discuss housing affordability strategies.

The Ypsilanti Affordability Housing Committee will discuss ways the city can address the issue of creating more affordable housing.  That includes looking at the possibility of rent control and creating an ordinance that defines the parameters for affordable housing based on Ypsilanti’s median income, rather than a countywide median income.  Commissioner Yen Azzarois part of the Ypsilanti Housing Commission.

Yen Azzaro: That does make sense because if you look at the aggregate of how dollar distribution across our county, the eastern side of the county certainly has lower household income and that would level the playing field a little bit more for everybody in the county.

The housing committee is also calling for the city to consider the possibility of creating overnight shelters for the homeless.
