An Eastern Michigan University graduate is stuck out of the country and in quarantine amid the global coronavirus pandemic.  As Daniel Boothe reports, a Muskegon woman is begging for help in bringing her 23-year-old son home from Peru.

Luke Sessink is a former recent Reeths-Puffer high school student and recent graduate of Eastern Michigan’s nursing program.  His first mission as a registered nurse was going to be as a volunteer for six weeks at a community medical clinic in Cusco, Peru.  The moment he got there, however, the Peruvian government declared a national emergency, closing its borders, and ordering a national quarantine amid the COVID-19pandemic.

Sessink immediately returned to the airport, but he arrived too late.  Officials wouldn’t let him back on the plane.  This is Luke’s mom, Mary Sessink.

“And now he’s stuck there and quarantined with this host family that he’s there with,” Sessink said.  “And everything is shutdown, and every day, things are getting stricter, and their getting curfews…and there is over 1500 Americans that are stuck in Peru.”

Sessink said that she reached out to United States Representative Bill Huizenga, her Congressman, who told her that his office would try to help, but for now, all she and Luke can do is wait.
